PLATELET DONATIONS
WHY DONATE PLATELETS
Platelets are small cell fragments in the blood that help prevent or stop bleeding, making them lifesaving in emergencies and for patients with blood disorders. When you donate, only the platelets of your blood are collected, and the other components are given back.
- You can donate every 7 days
- Donations take 2.5 hours
- You can donate at TBC centers
- Females must be HLA Negative*
*Complimentary HLA tests are offered at the time of a standard whole blood donation. If you have ever been pregnant, ask about a complimentary HLA test to determine eligibility for donating platelets at your next blood donation.
GET REWARDED FOR GIVING
The Platelet Plus rewards program is a tiered points system for platelet donors based on how many times they donate each year.*
With each platelet donation, donors receive reward points based on their current tier, and reward points increase at their next donation after they’ve graduated to the next tier.
Donors can check their rewards status on the Points History page in the Donor Portal.
*A year is defined as 12 months from your last donation.
