NONPROFIT TRANSPARENCY
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
To us, nonprofit transparency means employing one or more open arenas to display information relevant to anyone who wishes to measure the fulfillment of our mission to the stakeholders we serve. Also, our income tax exemption and our ability to receive tax-deductible contributions oblige us to be accountable to the public.
Recent for-profit business excursions beyond the boundaries of public trust have resulted in more government-mandated accountability regulations and stricter enforcement of penalties against entities and individuals involved in such indiscretions. We prefer voluntary compliance with basic transparency guidelines over more regulations. We also embrace more nonprofit transparency, not as a bulwark against regulation, but rather as a sensible and reasonable response to needs of engaged patrons, beneficiaries and mission partners. And it’s the right thing to do!
