IT’S YOUR TURN TO DONATE
BLOOD DONOR ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
If you weigh at least 110 pounds, are 16 (or 17 in NC) years old and have parental consent, you are eligible to donate blood and save lives today.
YOU CAN DONATE BLOOD IF:
- YOU HAVE A TATTOO
as long as it was received from a certified tattoo technician and it is healed. - YOU HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
so long as it is under 180/100 at the time of the donation. - YOU HAVE DIABETES
if it is being treated and is under control. - YOU TAKE MEDICATIONS
because most are accepted. For a full list of medications that could prohibit donation, please contact TBC Donor Advocacy at 864-751-1153.
YOU MIGHT BE ELIGIBLE TO DONATE BLOOD IF:
-
YOU HAVE LOW IRON
Low iron is usually a temporary condition. TBC follows FDA guidelines requiring hemoglobin checks prior to blood donation. If your iron is in the required range for blood donation, you can donate.
YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO DONATE BLOOD IF:
- YOU DON’T FEEL WELL
Fever, cough and feeling under the weather puts your blood donation on hold. Even if you are taking antibiotics to treat an infection, you still cannot donate blood.
